Courage allows the successful woman to fail - and to learn powerful lessons from the failure - so that in the end, she didn't fail at all. - Maya Angelou
Early pregnancy loss or Recurrent Miscarriage is a frustrating and heart-struggling experience for both the patient and the physician. Early pregnancy loss is regrettably the most common problem of human gestation, occurring in as many as 75% of all women trying to conceive. Most of these losses are unrecognized and happen before or with the next expected menses and of those that are recognized, 15-20% result in spontaneous abortions or ectopic pregnancies. Approximately 5% of couples trying to conceive have two consecutive miscarriages, and approximately 1% of couples have three or more consecutive losses. Early pregnancy loss is defined as the termination of pregnancy before 20 weeks gestation or with a fetal weight of less than 500 g. If you have had two miscarriages in a row, you should see a physician for a basic testing workup for miscarriage causes, such as uterine shape problems, blood disorders, and probable hormonal imbalances. The tests will include a number of blood tests and imaging tests of your uterus. You may want to postpone on trying to conceive again until you have completed the testing. The process of diagnosis can be a little complicated. Sometimes it could be difficult to find an answer and the whole process is quite involved. In order to complete the diagnosis, you and your partner need to have a thorough physical examination and take medical history as well which may include:
Remember that even though your loss may feel overwhelming and out of hand right now, odds are still in your favour that you will have a baby soon. Even after six or more losses, the majority of women do ultimately go on to have a successful pregnancy. Every day that passes is closer to that day when you will have a baby and when what you are experiencing right now will be just a bad memory. “We respect every woman’s dream to mother a baby”.
