Embryo Freezing

We perform cryopreservation for you to preserve fertility, by freezing and storing embryos, eggs and sperm for use in the future. A vital component of any successful fertility programme,Srushti has had an excellent track record with Cryopreservation since 2000.

Cryopreservation can be a difficult decision to make for some couples. However, it truly is a viable means to preserve fertility and have a biological child. It can also help other couples experience the joy of parenthood, through the donation of embryos, eggs and sperms.

Embryo Freezing

Embryo cryopreservation is the process of freezing and storing extra embryos. You can have these embryos thawed and use them at a later date. Freezing embryos gives you the opportunity to get pregnant through Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET), without having to go through another ovarian stimulation and retrieval cycle.

Who should consider Embryo Freezing?

Couples who are undergoing IVF could also consider freezing extra embryos as it gives them another chance to get pregnant if the IVF fails the first time, or the opportunity to have a second baby, without undergoing another IVF cycle.

Embryo freezing is most often recommended to couples where one partner requires treatment that could impair fertility, such as cancer treatment.

How is cryopreservation done?

The main concern when freezing embryos is the formation of ice in the cells and between them, which can damage them. Therefore, it is imperative that we protect the embryo during the freezing process, which we do using special ‘cryoprotective agents’. Embryos are frozen and preserved, 1 – 6 days after they are made, using two distinct processes: slow programmable freezing and vitrification respectively. The frozen embryos are then stored in sealed liquid nitrogen containers, where they can remain for years without damage or degeneration.

How safe is it?

Thousandsof babies have been born from frozen and thawed embryos, the world over. Some babies were born even from embryos that have been stored for over 10 years. And research has conclusively proven that freezing and thawing the embryos does not harm the baby in any way.

Srushti has a high pregnancy rates with frozen embryos, which is almost as high as our success rate with fresh embryos. We are proud to state that our frozen embryo survival rate is almost 95%.
